Teaching Laboratories

1. Analog Circuits and Systems Design Laboratory (C508)

Serving ESE 123 (Introduction to ECE) and ESE 272 (Electronics), this laboratory provides hands-on experience with analog electronic circuits, from simple DC circuits to systems operating at frequencies up to 20 MHz.
Eight workbenches feature industry-standard power supplies, oscilloscopes, waveform generators, digital multimeters, solderless breadboards, and desktop computers. Each workbench also serves as a soldering station for printed circuit board assembly. A wide selection of electronic components supports laboratory exercises and circuit design projects.

2. Digital Systems Rapid Prototyping Laboratory (C607)

This laboratory supports ESE 118 (Digital Logic Design) and ESE 280 (Embedded Microcontroller Systems Design I). Laboratory activities cover digital logic simulation and testing, microcontroller programming, on-board flash memory programming, and hardware verification.
Eight workbenches contain mixed-signal oscilloscopes, digital design workstations, solderless breadboards, desktop computers, digital integrated circuits, and microcontroller development boards. These resources support laboratory exercises and design projects in digital logic and embedded systems.

3. Computer-Aided Design Laboratory (C614)

ESE 124 (Programming Fundamentals) and ESE 224 (Advanced Programming and Data Structures) take place in this laboratory, which serves as both a classroom and a computer laboratory. Students write, compile, test, and debug programs immediately after learning new programming concepts and algorithms.
The laboratory contains twelve computer workstations and an instructor station connected to two 70-inch smart TVs for lectures and demonstrations. With prior arrangements, students from other courses may also use the laboratory for computer-aided design tasks such as digital logic simulation, software development, and on-board debugging of embedded systems.

4. Multi-purpose Design Laboratory (C509)

This laboratory primarily supports ESE 440 (Senior Design I) and ESE 441 (Senior Design II). It serves as the department’s capstone design space, where students develop complete engineering systems that integrate hardware and software.
Seven workbenches provide modern test and measurement instruments, circuit design trainers, programmable power supplies, and solderless breadboards. Additional resources include professional 3D printers, a Quanser Qube Servo 3 platform for control systems and mechatronics, and advanced FPGA development boards with multicore processor and digital signal processing (DSP) capabilities for embedded computing and hardware/software co-design.
