Welcome to the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department at SUNY Korea

Electrical and computer engineering forms the invisible bedrock of the modern world. From the microchips powering our smartphones to the intelligent sensors guiding autonomous vehicles, the innovations born in ECE laboratories dictate how humanity communicates, works, and lives.

As the new Chair of this department, my vision is built upon a simple philosophy: We do not just teach the future; we build it. Throughout my career — from conceptualizing global digital connectivity standards like HDMI and DVI in Silicon Valley, to directing mass-production application processor R&D at Samsung, and spearheading vehicle intelligence and deep learning data center infrastructure at Hyundai — I have witnessed firsthand what it takes to transform a theoretical concept into a multi-billion-device global reality. That exact standard of professional rigor, industry relevance, and unyielding innovation is what we bring to the classrooms and research labs of SUNY Korea.

Following a prestigious American educational model, our ECE program seamlessly pairs a world-class theoretical foundation from Stony Brook University (SBU) with hands-on, project-based learning. Through our unique "2+1+1" lifecycle, our students spend their immersive third year at the SBU New York campus, cultivating a truly global engineering perspective.

But our responsibility goes beyond technical fluency. For our elite, boutique cohort of students, we provide high-touch mentorship designed to bridge the gap between classroom theory and industry execution. We are transforming our curriculum into a launchpad for "Engineer-Leaders" — nurturing not just brilliant minds, but standard-bearers, innovators, and entrepreneurs who are fully prepared to step into global lead engineer roles.

Whether your aspirations lie in launching cutting-edge research through our sustainable graduate pathways, collaborating with local tech clusters in our upcoming "Bridge Labs," or pioneering technologies for the automated AI-driven era, SUNY Korea ECE is your gateway.

I encourage you to explore our website, engage with our world-class faculty, and join us as we engineer the next paradigm of global innovation.
