Electrical and Computer Engineering

Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) is one of the core disciplines of engineering and serves as the foundation of today's connected world. It combines principles from electrical engineering, computer engineering, and computer science to create the systems that power modern life. ECE drives advances in semiconductor devices, embedded systems, communications, signal processing, artificial intelligence, robotics, intelligent sensing, and autonomous systems. These technologies support products and services that people use every day, from smartphones and cloud computing to medical devices, smart factories, and intelligent transportation.

The Undergraduate Electrical Engineering Program

The Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering (EE) at SUNY Korea provides a strong foundation in mathematics, science, and engineering together with extensive hands-on laboratory and design experience. Students study electronics, digital system design, embedded systems, communications, signal processing, machine learning, software engineering, and related topics. Small class sizes allow close interaction with faculty and personalized academic guidance. Through the unique 2+1+1 program, students spend their third year at the Stony Brook University campus in New York and gain an international academic experience. The curriculum prepares graduates for careers in industry, graduate study, entrepreneurship, and technical leadership in the rapidly changing world of electrical and computer engineering.

The Senior Design Experience

The two-semester Senior Design sequence brings together the knowledge and skills that students develop throughout the program. Working in teams, students identify a real engineering problem, establish technical requirements, evaluate alternative solutions, and develop a complete hardware, software, or integrated system. They build prototypes, verify that the system satisfies the project requirements, and improve the design based on experimental results and feedback. Throughout the project, students strengthen their technical communication, teamwork, and project management skills while gaining experience that closely reflects professional engineering practice.

The Accelerated BE/MS Program

The Accelerated BE/MS Program is designed for students who seek greater academic challenges and advanced study. Qualified students take graduate-level courses during their senior year while meeting the same academic standards as students who complete the BE and MS degrees separately. Because two graduate courses count toward both degrees, students can complete both degrees in five years. Students complete the second year of the master's program at the Stony Brook University campus in New York and earn an MS degree from Stony Brook University. For eligible international students, this provides access to Optional Practical Training (OPT), which offers valuable professional experience in the United States after graduation. An MS degree expands career opportunities, prepares graduates for positions that require advanced technical knowledge, and provides additional time for engineering design projects, research, and portfolio development. A strong portfolio can help graduates stand out in today's competitive job market.
