Reinstatements allow students to regain their scholarship eligibility under specific circumstances, such as when they return from a Leave of Absence (LOA) or fail to meet the continuing scholarship/financial aid criteria, but are still eligible to petition for reinstatement.
If a student loses their scholarship/financial aid due to factors like not maintaining the required GPA or failing to meet full-time enrollment requirements, they may submit a reinstatement petition. This petition allows the student to request the return of their scholarship/financial aid, provided they meet the established criteria for reinstatement, which may include submitting supporting documentation, such as a doctor’s note or evidence of extenuating circumstances.
The scholarship committee reviews each petition, considering factors such as the student’s situation and academic history. If the petition is approved, the scholarship may be reinstated.
For students returning from a Leave of Absence and intending to reinstate their scholarship, please refer to the ‘Reinstatements for Rematriculating Students’ section.
For students who did not meet the continuing scholarship/financial aid criteria and intend to submit a reinstatement petition, please refer to the ‘Reinstatement Petition for Continuing Scholarship/Financial Aid’ section.
Submit rematriculation forms via the Google Form: [For SK-SBU] / [For SK-FIT]. Detailed instructions and policies regarding SBU/FIT leave of absence and rematriculation are also available here: [HERE].
After completing rematriculation, submit the reinstatement application through [Here] along with the petition form, and any other supporting documents if necessary (e.g., doctor’s note).
The Scholarship Committee will review your eligibility and the availability of the scholarship.
You will be notified of the committee’s decision. If approved, your scholarship will be reinstated for the upcoming term.
Students who do not meet the continuation criteria outlined in the Merit-Based Scholarships/Financial Aid for Incoming Students (see table below) may be subject to scholarship discontinuation in accordance with the SUNY Korea Undergraduate Scholarship/Financial Aid Guide.
If you do not meet the continuation criteria and wish to appeal for scholarship reinstatement, please contact academics.scholarship@sunykorea.ac.kr. A staff member will guide you through the necessary procedures and provide detailed instructions on the required documents for your petition.
Petitions will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee on a case-by-case basis, and the final decision will be communicated in a timely manner.
