Professors Francois Rameau and Zhoulai Fu of the Department of Computer Science at SUNY Korea have been selected to participate in strategic R&D planning initiatives focused on next-generation robotics and energy-efficient AI. Through collaboration with leading Korean research institutes, the initiatives provide opportunities to develop their research concepts and establish pathways toward future national and international R&D projects.
SUNY Korea has launched two strategic R&D planning initiatives in next-generation robotics and energy-efficient AI, strengthening the university’s engagement with Korea’s national research and innovation ecosystem. The initiatives are part of a collaborative program supported by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) and the Incheon Global Campus (IGC), designed to foster industry–academia–research cooperation and identify promising research areas for future national and international collaborative R&D.
Professor Francois Rameau is leading a research planning initiative in AI-powered robotics and spatial intelligence, exploring technologies for next-generation intelligent robotic systems that can better perceive, understand, and interact with complex real-world environments. The research area is being further explored in collaboration with KATECH (Korea Automotive Technology Institute) as part of the robotics technology R&D planning process. Through technical discussions and expert consultation, the team will refine the research direction and explore opportunities for future collaborative R&D.
Professor Zhoulai Fu is leading a research planning initiative in energy-efficient AI and machine learning, focusing on technologies that could improve the efficiency and sustainability of future AI computing systems. The research area is being further developed with KETI (Korea Electronics Technology Institute) in connection with advanced semiconductor and AI computing technologies. The planning process will explore promising technological directions and collaborative opportunities for future research in advanced AI and semiconductor technologies.
Kick-off meetings with the respective research teams and partner institutes have been completed, marking the beginning of the next stage of the R&D planning process. The selected research topics will now be further developed through technical consultation, collaborative planning, and engagement with potential research partners, with the goal of building competitive research concepts for future national and international R&D opportunities. This process provides SUNY Korea with an important opportunity to connect the expertise of its Computer Science faculty with leading Korean research institutes and to expand collaboration with industry, academia, and international research partners.
The SUNY Korea Research Support Team (R&BDF) will work closely with Professors Rameau and Fu throughout the planning process, supporting coordination with research institutes, government-related organizations, and potential collaborative partners. Beyond the initial planning stage, R&BDF will continue to support the development of these research concepts into competitive R&D proposals and future funding opportunities, working together with the faculty and partner institutions toward successful project development and acquisition. Through this collaborative effort, SUNY Korea aims to strengthen a sustainable pathway from promising research ideas to strategic R&D planning, collaborative partnerships, competitive proposals, and future national and international R&D projects.
